Ford 1710 dual clutch pto adjustment

I have a Ford 1710 tractor with dual clutch assembly. My PTO is grinding when I engage the clutch. I have the I&T shop service manual (FO-44) that is supposedly for the 1710 model (among other models). The illustration of the access to the dual plate for adjustment indicates that there"s a PTO clutch release bolt. My tractor does not resemble this illustration. Does anyone have some tips on making the adjustment for the PTO for the 1710 model.

If the 1710 has a duel clutch "$450" it probly is just for the drive. most of them didn't have live power. even my 1715 that the book says has live power doesn't have it, But they have a built in overide clutch that sometimes gives you trouble to the tune of $200 plus 10 hours labor to replace it.

My owner's manual shows the adjusting rod just below the pedal behind the platform step. If it is too blurry I can email.

(quoted from post at 13:01:49 07/12/09) thanks everyone for your reply, but I figured out the location of the adjuster nut for the pto clutch.

I know this is an old post, but where did you find an adjuster nut? thanks, gregjo1948

They might be lurking around and not posting, or using different handles, but it appears these fellows haven't posted for years. charles1 only posted in this 2009 thread. greenbeanman in Kansas last posted in 2012 and Oldmax in 2014. Hope you get an answer.

I found a picture and a bit of info showing the adjusting bolts, in the pressure plate, for the PTO clutch are reached through the hole covered by a rubber plug in the clutch housing, can't guarantee that this is correct info. It looks like pedal free play is adjusted at the clevis where the clutch rod hooks to the throwout bearing lever shaft at the side of the clutch housing.

Thanks Jim.ME
Could you post what you found? thanks, gregjo1948

It's not much. I think it might be from an I&T manual. This site and others have the I&T manual # FO44, which says it covers the 1710 and others.

That's what I can see looking thru the hole in the bellhousing. Would be great if it told how to free up the stuck pto and how to adjust it. thanks for the pic.

If it is like some others there is a given clearance between the bolt head and pressure plate you set with feeler gauges by loosening the locknut and turning the bolt. Generally, that is only done with a new disc I believe and should be good for the life of the disc.

As for being stuck I expect the manufacturer's answer would be to split the tractor disassemble and clean things up, replacing components as needed. No money in parts and labor for them just popping an old disc free.
