Voltage regulator

Last night I was moving bales with my 1550 Oliver gas and the lights got real dim and the amp gauge dropped low. After a minute the gauge came back and the lights got bright again. This continued for the rest of the night. The alternator is nearly new so I doubt it is the problem but suspect the voltage regulator which appears to be original (1968). What do you think?

Make sure the battery isn"t going bad and check all the connections and wiring too. How many volts charging at the battery ? May be time to just convert to a internal regulated alternator too.

Before you jump into this the 1550 tractors used 2 different regulators. I would suspect a few other things first. I will send you an e-mail in the morning.

Battery was good last winter, fan belt is tight, all connections seem to be good. I don't know how many volt are charging to the battery. The amp gauge has bounced around and the lights have been kind of dim since I bought the tractor in 2005 and its on its second battery and alternator.
