Oliver 1850 gas has a smell to it????

I have noticed today that after running the tractor for a little bit that an odor comes off the tractor. It smells like rotten eggs. What is making the smell and how can I fix it??? Today I was mowing hay with it and I started smelling this odor and then all of a sudden it made a pop sound almost like a backfire, I shut it off immediately. Thanks for any ones advice as to what to look for.

Contact your nearest Cenex Fuel supplier. Ask them to take a sample of your fuel and send it in to the lab. they will be able to tell you what if anything is going on with the fuel

sounds like it its over charging the battery should charge 13.8 volts . Or the battery is shorted out and needs replaced.

Sounds like the battery was being overcharged and blew off a cap.

However when worked hard in hot weather the 1850 gasser has an annoying tendency to boil the fuel in the tank - sometimes rather violently.

Bottom line is if you're smelling sulfur it's the battery; if your smell gas it's boiling (or leaking...) fuel.

Like others said the battery is overcharging. You should sit in a IH 86 series cab when a battery is overcharging. PHEW! Jim

Thanks for everyones replies. Everyone said the same thing about the battery being overcharged, SO Does that mean that I need to replace the voltage reg.?? It wouldnt be my alternator correct. So I should try replacing voltage reg. correct
