OT taking dog to campsite in hot climate

Hello. This is really OT.
We will take our Bichon Frisé dog (20 lbs) with us during our holiday that we will spend on a campsite on the Adriatic coast in Italy. Temperatures there may get as high as 38 Centigrade, which is 100 F, while the relative humidity is around 60%. My guess is that the weather conditions may be comparable to those in California.
My main concern is that our dog may suffer from the heat and sun. We live in The Netherlands where the climate is moderate. And a brick house is always more comfortable than a caravan (British English) or trailer home (American English)...
Any tips or precautions to take?

Find a hundepension (or whatever you folks call a dogsitter) and enjoy your vacation...... Other than that, I don't know.

Probably do better than you unless it is thoroughly spoiled and aircondition tuned.make sure it has plenty of available fresh water.could always cool it down in the sea,or you could keep a damp area under the van. The dog will seek out the coolest place. But your concerns may be unfounded.
 
A twenty pound Bichon Frisé could get by with a dish pan.

he will be fine if you keep plenty of cool fresh water available and he has access to some shade the pool idea is great a small dog like that could use a tin tub like a grain tub he will be much less stressed if he is with you rather than in a kennel with people he doesnt know, ive let friends drop off dogs here at my farm while they flew on their vacation thinking the dog would be happier out here than in a city kennel cage these were large dogs and airlines dont seem to like 100 lb plus dogs, but the dogs just spent most of there time whining and obviously missing their master

How true! Not to mention how much the master misses the dog. (My wife is VERY fond of our dog and she would never leave him somewhere where he would miss her.)

Wm. I like the idea of giving him a pool, although he is not keen on bathing. Reminds me of the black Lab we had on my parent's farm when I was young. That dog jumped into ponds and streams at every opportunity, be it summer or winter (as long as there was no ice of course).

Bendee. Sure hope he does better than me! Yes, plenty of fresh water is needed at all times and dogs are indeed masters in finding the coolest spots.

Just make sure he has plenty of water and shade. But 20lbs? That little guy is a porker. Most are half that.
 
36 coupe. Good point! We checked their rules and we assume we comply to all of them. Dog got all his needles, which are registered in his medical passport. Dog is microchipped and tattooed(sp?). And besides a leash we have the compulsory muzzle, which looks VERY funny on that tiny dog :)
 

leave him home, best for the dog and the other campers. Can you imagine the trauma of being inthe hold of the plane, in a crate, all the noise, strange people? better yet, stay near home and take him for long walks...sl
 
Dave. Yes, our vacation starts at the moment we leave our town. In Germany we will mainly use the Autobahn: Arnheim (NL), Oberhausen, Köln, Frankfurt, Würzburg, Nürnberg, München, Salzburg (A) or Innsbruck (A).
 
Enjoy it!!! Have you got ADAC or some type of roadside service? I just came from Frankfurt last week and the traffic in that area was a nightmare. Seems they are always working on that autobahn between Frankfurt and Wurzburg...
If you don't have visiting plans for that stretch, you may want to go farther south at Frankfurt and across A6. A8 (farther south than A6) is a real nice route but there are long stretches with no shoulder in case you have trouble. I live about 25 km NE of Wurzburg.
