Poly tank patch?

Started the summer weed fight the past week. I have a 25 gallon spot sprayer for pastures, fences and around the row crop ground. It's only one year old. Going across some ditches around the edge of the corn field it shifted pretty hard, couldn't find the ratchet straps for it so just had tarp straps holding it on. Put about a 2" crack in the bottom of the tank. It just barely drips but it's enough that I don't want to leave it in the yard over night. What would be something good to patch it with? Silicone? RTV? Some kinda epoxy stuff? Need somehting that will hold up to 2-4D, Roundup, and crossbow for most part.

Yes, I'm in to this thread. Last fall cracked the tank om my 25 gallon ATV sprayer at the mount bolt position. Been leaking bad ever since. So I tried some black RTV. No luck.
Just today I tried some two part epoxy and waiting for it to cure. Let you know how that works.

Do you have anyone building fiberglass boats etc near you. That fiberglass resin will seal just about anything. You may have to find a way to get the crack dry first.

Mine had a small crack where the threaded inserts are in the bottom. I used Seal-All and it has held up to all kinds of stuff,2-4-d,roundup,malathion,seven. I put it on the inside and outside of the tank. Just let it cure completely before you use the tank.

Nothing beats Marine Goop, ordered some to patch plastic canoes and it sure stands the test. Comes in a tube just like caulk, so we used a caulking gun which was great for covering larger areas. It was only about $6.00 a tube so we felt it was very reasonable. Found out about it by Googling about canoe repair. I'd sure give it a try, and I'll guarantee it will do much better than RTV.

I have heated up a nail or screw driver then used it to melt the plastic back together on mant differant things with great luck. Make sure not to melt a hole in it then it becomes a major problem. By melting it back together it is the longest lasting fix that one can do.

Virtaully NOTHING will stick to HDPE except HDPE.

NAPA or a RV supply has a plastic tank repair kit (grey water or fuel tank) works great even on a battery were I have used it most

I have had bad luck with JB weld but Seal all really does work on almost anything. Use it to reinstall plastic car parts to metal etc. Epoxy resin will probably form a skin on the surface and eventually leak again. Dont forget, their are two different type of resin. Boat builders use a cheaper faster setting resin , not epoxy. called polyester resin. Not as good as epoxy and will not stick to epoxy but epoxy will stick to almost everything. Polyester resin requires a lot less hardener. Epoxy resins are usually 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 and take a lot longer to harden but are water proof. Henry

at most if not all auto parts stores there is a plastic tank repair kit cost around $10 and comes with a fiberglass patch for strength and a 2 part epoxy. Make sure to do the repair in the shade when it's not hot outside (early morning or late evening) when that stuff starts to hat up you have only a couple min to complete the repair. only a couple hour cure time and you are good to go.

If it is like my tank nothing will stick to it. I needed to do a "spin weld." You need a router and a spin weld attachment with poly disc. The router must spin around 27,000 to 33,000 rpm and it will fix the problem. It must spin fast enouch to friction/heat weld the ;patch to the hole. I have big green poly water tanks.

Take it to an RV repair shop they have a setup to weld the cracks. I had a big one in my water tank on my RV and they fixed it real nice.

local business has a welder for poly, they repaired a 500 gal. tank for me where it was weather cracked, charged $25.00 and it held fine, not much sticks to poly very long especially jb weld and fiberglass, it needs to be welded for a permanent fix but I wouldn't spend much on a 25 gal. tank vs. replacing it
