Bats in my barn.

I have a 30x60 barn, horses and pigs in lower, hay mows are empty, just used for storing equipment and tractors. Infested with dozens maybe hundreds of bats. Tried the ultra sonic rodent device, had it in there for at least 3 months. They make a terrible mess, manure all over, very corrosive, eats and rusts metal, have to cover up everything. Anyone have any ideas how to make them leave?

Perhaps Bat houses outside the barn (actually on the side of the barn). Then eliminate the nooks and crannies they are hiding from the light in.

Bats are great to have around and eat their weight in bugs and insects. The mess is really what you want to eliminate. The scent of the waste is what is drawing in so many. They return to that. Perhaps also check with a local college. Many have experts in the ag departments on such animals and they might be able to suggest other options for getting them into the bat houses and out of the barn. If you can build/ buy bat housing and they move into them, you would have the benefit of the bats eating the bugs and not have the mess in the barn- everyone wins. If you need help finding someone, let me know where you are and what college you are close to, and I will help all I can. Good luck.

Some Bats are protected, I would not call anybody but deal with them yourself. You might wind up with a barn that you are not allowed to use!

1st, I'd build/buy a bathouse or two and put them on the outside then light up the inside until they get tired of it and move. If you have a mosquito problem, setup a rain barrel or something away from your house for a breeding place (larvea) and put in a couple of goldfish. Before long, mosquitos won't be a problem either.

You have a real problem getting rid of these bats. I had a bunch of them in my barn also. When they leave they circle inside before they leave, and as they are circling they crap and pee on everything as you probably already know. I tried about everything. I parked one of my tractors in my barn and ran the engine with a pipe connected to the exhaust up into the rafters, this got a few. I tried moth balls. I tried bug bombs, sticky fly tape, greased the wood where I thought they land on. They still were there. One day I saw a bunch of them behind a old flat wind shield from a old car laying on the wall about 10 ft up. I sealed all around the wind shield with rags and put a flexable tube from a small enging into this area. A lot of bats didn't return to mexico that year. I may have broke the cycle, because they haven't been back. I know they eat a lot of bugs, but I hate them. Why don't you try the tractor exhaust. stan
