O/T update on the 97 Ford

Drove the Ford to work all week and we took it to the farm. Traffic leaving Dallas was the pits. Took us an hour and 15 min to go what usually takes 45 minutes. Stop, go, stop, sit, go, etc, etc.

Stopped to get gas so I could check the mileage. Really pleased, even with all the sitting in traffic, it got 18 mpg.

Went to auto parts store Sat. morning and got Wix air, oil, & fuel filter. A bit pricey, $100 for the three. Then on to Autolube to get oil changed and filters installed & lubed up.

Don"t think the fuel filter had ever been changed. They had to break the cap and chisel it to get the old one off.

Horses had to come back to Dallas because the shoer was coming Monday to trim their feet. It was a good opportunity to see how it did with a load. Trailer + 2 horses = 8000lbs. Truck handled it with no problems.

Taking the truck to the farm again and will fill up to check mileage after towing.

All in all, well pleased.

That's great mileage Nancy good pick there
I saw it in your previous post about it.

A worker with a feminine look so she has no doubts to get the grocery's and help with the field work, that a guy can drive with confidence too. Nice Truck !!

Nancy: Do you live around the Dallas area? i have friends who live outside of Dallas and work in Dallas at XTO, and EOG Energy. IO think they live in a place called Burson Texas???

100 bucks for three filters? Did you get oil too, or just the filters? If so, it sounds like it was a bit overpriced to me. Which parts house did you go to? It's been a while since I bought any filters, last time I bought 3 of each as I recall because I service mine at home.
Next time you better send James to get the filters!
18 MPG is good, that is about what I get with mine on the highway. Stop and go traffic will hurt the mileage, so you shouldn't have any complaints. Towing the trailer, I imagine you will get 14 or better.
I might make one suggestion, pick up an extra fuel filter and keep it in the truck. In a pinch, you can change it on the road. The cap unscrews as you now know and the filter drops in from the top. If the well is dry, you will have to put fuel in there prior to attempting to restart the truck. I had issues with mine one day, and a quick filter change kept me on the road. Cheap insurance.
Also, good choice on the WIX filter. They are the best IMO. Napa filters are badged NAPA but are made by WIX.

You need to ditch the filter that comes with the cap. The reason it was so hard to get off is they leak!(Dont ask me what happens when it does start to leak) Go to powerstrokeshop.com and order you a cap and wrench from them, and get the filter that comes without the cap.
