What HP to pull batwing

If a fella was considering a 4wd tractor for pulling a 12-15 foot batwing rotary mower, what would be the minimal HP he should consider? Here in PA hillsides are always a part of the deal. Would the four wheel drive make that much difference?
Thanks.

85 to 100 HP would maybe be adequate. 4WD is a definate advantage. Some will say 60HP would do the job and it will but at what bother.Don't know what you are cutting,Weeds,Brush?? Hill sides need some extra power and stability. Better safe than sorry, don't you think?

I wouldnt consider anything less than a 90 horse. We have a 15 foot we pull with a 1066. Its around 120horse and there are times in really heavy stuff our 15ft hog bogs it down. I tried it on my 806 which is arnd 90 horse and did ok but really cuda used another 10 horse.

Mostly just clipping off pasture after moving the cattle off. Right now I have a 70 horse Deere but am only running a six foot king kutter. I would like a bigger mower but, I might also need a bigger tractor.

We pull a 15" with a 4wd 2755 Deere (about 75 hp) on some pretty steep VA hills. Unless the fields are very thick generally we get along just fine. Brush or heavy weeds would be a different story, just slow down. My biggest thing is make sure that you are weighted up on the front so it doesn"t get squirrely. We always make sure that safety has the priority.
Admittedly, it would be nice to have few more horses sometimes. Pulling the same cutter with the bil"s new tractor (103hp) a few weeks ago was awful nice, it might be lame but I even took a picture.

you should be ok with what you have
the cows will thin it out
however it takes a lot of horse if you drop any mower down tight to the ground
holding it up to clip off pasture after cows dosn't take a lot of horse as you will be cutting 6" or higher in thin grass, no brush

The local school corp ordered two new 5740 Kubota"s, cab, air AND with two 15" batwings. I said something to the dealer and he said "that"s what they wanted". Anyway, they got brought back to the dealer (used) after a couple days, took a beating at the taxpayers expense and got something half the size. I like our 5740, put it"s not going to pull a 15" mower hardly anywhere. Sure would be nice to be able to spend someone elses money.

use a 66 hp tractor all the time.. it does load on heavy stuff but it still does the job. but then I'm cutting mosquite and its not good for shredder or tractor.

130 hp on a batwing is a waste of fuel.

old rule is take hp and divide by 10 then double and thats the size you can pull. so 75 horses will do a 15' bat wing..

but the crop/folage your cutting has a LOT to due with hp requirements.

100 horsepower needed for thick, green grass on a 15' batwing.

ALSO, it depends on whether or not it is 540 or 1000 rpm. The neighbor uses an 1155 MF with 540 on a 15 footer. WAY OVERKILL.

We used a 4000 Ford on a 20 ft Woods for 7 years then got a 7600. Thats 52&85 hp both do ok clipping pasture but real mowing I use the 9000 if the clutches can stand it!

I run a 120 hp tractor on the 15 ft batwing and at times use all the power. But it depends on what you are cutting. Clipping pasture requires a lot less. Seen a lot of 15 ft mowers on JD 4020's and that seems to be a good combination, for just about any situation. I would also go with a 1000 rpm on a 15 ft unit.
