Well, in a way.
just had my ATV inspected. Took all of 5 minutes (including an emission test) and cost 60 bucks. Good for two years, but still.

That's a rip-off .. but they got you .... what can you do but to pay it and bite your upper lip .. or not be aloud to drive it ..
Some inspections are O.K. they do keep some of the stuff off the road that isn't save ..

Inspections suck and are another instrument of the State to garner money for essentially...nothing. They had vehicle inspections here in KY many years ago until finally terminating that disgusting program. It was a joke...turn on the lights, flip the turn signals..L&R, honk the horn, check the brake lights...took less than 5 minutes, they took your money and gave you a 3 cent sticker. Oh...what if the items didn"t pass? Come back tomorrow and try again (if the inspector didn"t know you). If he did know you, you got your sticker anyway.

Dave2 is in Germany and works for, I think, the military as a civilian. That is the kind of stuff that certain people think would be a great idea for our country!

I recently got hosed by Sears Auto. I was told that mounting and balancing was included so I agreed to the 25 dollars more per tire that they were charging for the tires. On top of that, they charged me 30 dollars a tire to mount and balance, thats $120 to mount four tires. I had to actually yell at the guy to get him to slow down and listen that I did not want chrome valve stems for 15 dollars a piece and an alignment check for 70 dollars. That would have added another $130 dollars to the bill. Their work was good and the tires were balanced properly so no qualms there, but when I did tires I could get a car in and out in about 20 minutes with a record time of 14. They took 20 minutes to do my car. Thats $600 dollars an hour for labor. Never again.

That is better to spend $750 an hour for 5 minutes than having the inspection take 2 hours, costing $30 an hour, and having a laundry list of corrections to make. I have had it go both ways. Far better to pass the first time around. Congradulations, be happy. Can you still get inspections on base or is it on the ecoomey now ?

For the vehicles with US plates, yes and it's free, but my tractor, trailers, and quad have German plates.

Ky inspection brought back memories. I took an old Ford 1956 farm truck 1-1/2 ton in to have inspected (local shops not state lanes) the inspecter says "want to put it over the hole in the windshield"? yep!

We have the same thing in Texas. Inspections are a waste of time. I was told this by a DPS trooper many years ago. If it has four wheels and rolls you get a sticker. Not sure about today but years ago you were required to have windshield wipers. But the code book said nothing about having a windshield. Ask a trooper about it and he said windshield not required according to the book.

(quoted from post at 14:54:24 06/30/09) I hear the chimney sweeps in Germany have a good racket, too.

mandatory if you want fire insurance. Once a year if you use gas, twice a year for oil and wood, 3 times if you use individual room oil heaters, coal, or your oil furnace is past a certain age.
