IH-1466 PTO Problem

I have a IH-1466 and the PTO quit. Haybine got clogged and I shut it down quickly, then after raising the haybine up and backing up, tried to clear it by turning it back on, came on once and then would not come back on even after disconnecting PTO from haybine. Is there a shear pin in there somewhere or does anyone have any advice.

Any help will sure be appreciated.

Advice?
A good set of IH manuals.
I'm not up on IH's but I'm sure there is a pressure test for the clutch, and a spec that must be met. Does the T/A work?
It could be something as simple as a control valve problem or as bad as a clutch pack or pump... or a line leaking somewhere in some obscene place that you can't see.
Best to get the books and study the system theory so you understand where to look...

Had the same thing happen pulling fert. spredder once with the 706. I tried engage, disengage, engage, disengage about 10 times with no sucess. Thought maybe it was low on trans fluid. Shut it off checked fluid. Right up to full mark. Brother in law stopped and we talked about problem for maybe 10 minutes. Started tractor up to go home and get another tractor to finish. Thought I would try it one more time. PTO started right up that time just as if nothing happened. Been working ever since. And I use the pto alot on that tractor. I bet if you go out in the morning and try it, it will work. Let me know how this turns out.

Walt: Similar to the Flying Belgain, I have heard of these PTO's stopping and 10 min later it worked, and I've heard it more than once. Never had it happen, and I probably put 30,000 hours on this type of PTO.

My luck was, they started slipping very little after about 8,000 hours. The slipage was so gradual and so slight one didn't notice it at the implement, but it did burn hell out of the clutch pack. One could check pressure yearly, yet 8,000 hours seemed to be the limit. As I recall clutch pack wasn't that expensive, good technician and accurate pressure test was most important and about 80% of the cost.

sounds to me like a clutch or pump problem, those pto's are easy to remove, its all 1 unit, the pump and valve are all contained in the pto unit ,partially drain trans and remove all bolts fromaround pto, pull unit back and drop rear of unit to allow front of unit to raise allowing suction tube to raise up and come out of rear housing, drive shaft may come out with pto, install driveshaft in tractor before reassembly, its really quite easy,

There is a tiny pin in the control valve that can break. When that happens the top part of the stem will come up with the linkage but the spool inside does not move so the the PTO will not work. In you can pull the control valve out of the PTO housing after removing the retainer nut, the pin is broken. The control valve must be installed from the bottom.
