haybaling costs?????

What would you folks say a small square baler costs to spit out a bale of hay (20-25 pound size) and put it under roof (within a mile of the field)?????

Reason I'm asking is big round bales (350kg) are going for 25 euro this year. That would be 35 10kg bales (.71 euro a bale). Local guy wants 2 euro picked up at his place for a small bale of the same hay he is selling in big rounds for 25 picked up.

Does it cost that much to run a baler? In this case, just talking about 150 bales so labor is minamal.

cost is about 42 cents for small bale here in Ontario.

About 20 years ago they were getting a penny a pound for making the bales. I don't know what that figures out to in "euro's and kilograms"! The penny a pound was left in the field. About anyone around here that wants small squares has a baler, so I don't know what the rate is for them now.

Thanks! Just trying to get a comparison. I've already got my hay bought in big rounds, just wanted some small bales for emergencies and/or times when it's too nasty to move a big one. This guy is a little shady, just won't fool with him.

150 bales is two wagon loads. So calculate how many man-hours it would take from the time he walks out of his door to the time he's home.

Hook up the baler, bring a wagon, fill the wagon, bring it to the barn, empty and stack the hay, return for the second load. There's more to it than just spitting out bales, especially for a small batch the setup and transportation become significant.

60+ or some of the little horsey girls wanted max 40 pounders.

Maybe a little more. Or, I'm stronger than I thought I was....... I'll find one and weigh it, I'm curious now............ :lol:

If they are that heavy, I'll sure feel better about them whippin my butt the last few years :roll:
