2-4D and surfacants

I"ve been trying to kill weeds and clover in a pasture here in central Ohio without much success. I"m trying again and wanted to explore the use of a surfacant. Can anyone provide some advice...I"ve heard dish soap or laundry soap will work.

Been using 2-4D products like Amine and now have switched to an ester based (oil) procuct LV400.

I have a theory that the "city" water that I am using is somehow retarding the 2-4D products that have worked for me in other locations with great results. Is it possibile that the water is treated with something that would minimize the effects of 2-4D?

I am also in central Ohio. I have had good killing problem broadleaf weeds by usaing a product that is a mixture of 24-d and Banvel. Product name I uas is Triplet or Mec-amine. I use 1 quart per acre and 15 to 20 gallons of water for good control. You will not want to pasture treated areas for a few days.
Yes, it is possoble that the chlorine in the city water is degrading the performance of your 24-d.
Banvel alone is a very good product but has a high vapor drift rate which the 24-d helps to reduce... Gene

I am a fruit farmer and therefore we kill grass in our orchards. I would mix roundup along with 24d. THis will help make your potion more deadly. Also you do not want to spray weeds when the temperature is a bove 80. or there is a heavy dew on the ground.

He may only want to get the broadleaf weeds with a blanket application, so don"t use roundup. Sometimes clover is harder to get at certain times of the year, but 2-4-D should get most others easily if it"s mixed correctly. What"s your rate?

The real question is how many ounces of 24D per acre. Unless you know how many gallons per acre your sprayer is putting out, your guessing. A good surfactant is MSO (methylated seed oil) or a straight 90% nonionic. I don't know how much adding Ammonium Sulfate would help, since you are trying to control a legume, but it does generally help with uptake and corrects water problems.I would never use detergents or soap as a surfactant. Yes, the soaps are surfactants of sorts, but have ingredients in them that destroy herbicides. At $.40 an acre for a good surfactant, I never risk using soaps. You might need to use a product containing triclopyr (Remedy, crossbow, etc.) or add it to your 24d. It packs a pretty good punch and works well with 24D,. My 2 cents

Most commomly used pasture herbicide in these parts is "Grazon". Combination of 24D and Tordon. Use betwee 1 and 1/2 qts per acre, and 10 - 12 gals water. It takes out most all broadleaf.
As others said , DO NOT ADD ROUNDUP.
