Setting front axle tread width

After adjusting the rear tire tread width on my 1650 cummins repower, I need to adjust the front tire tread width.

Should the center of the front tires line up with the center of the rear tires? Or, should the outside of the front tires line up with the outside of the rear tires? Or??????????? Let me know what is best.

Depends on what you are doing.

Spraying or cultivating row crops I try to get them in the center of my row spacing.

If I was gonna moldboard plow all the time I would set it even with the inside of the rears.

If I was gonna bale hay with a inline baler, I would set it even with the outside of the rears.

So you pick your setting.

If your just gonna ride it, it don't matter.

Being that it's an Oliver, those axels are a bear to get to move. I tried to adjust the axel on my 1600 and gave up after I couldn't get enough heat to it and there was no way to press it. I moved the rears in 7" and the front tires still line up with the rears, I want to say they line up with the outside of the tires. Works fine on the plow.

As long as the rears follow the fronts and cover the tracks, I'd be happy at that and wouldn't worry about it.. Good luck getting them to move, either way.

Thanks, Don. Here is how I got my axle apart. 10 tons of force worked like a champ. No amount of pounding could have done what the port-a-power did :)

Someday I want to get me one of those. Seems like every day I come up with another place I could use one. Glad to see you got it apart, that's the hardest part and lots of guys have had troubles with that.

have one from Harbor Fright tools and would be lost with out it also have the pull ram works great have had it for years and yes it's made in China but for 70 bucks it sure works nice
