O/T Ed McMahon dies at age 86

I plan on having a Budweiser and toast him later today. Really liked him and Johnny on the tonight show. Publishers Clearing House...not so much. When we cleared out Dad's house 6 years ago after his death, we found ten cashed checks for $1,000 each that he had sent to PCH. We're still not sure what that scam was all about. He had them stored in an envelope. He did show me a plastic flashlight once and called it his $10,000 flashlight from Ed McMahon, but he didn't elaborate on it. It's hard to imagine Dad getting caught up in a scam.

I had a letter from him years ago that says I won 10 million bucks, what a phoney.

Where's my money Ed?

When he steps into the gates of heaven is he going to say:
Heeeeeere's Ed.

probably not huh.

Ed's cultural legacy: You are correct sir, Hiyoooo!, Heeeeeeere's Johnny, You may already be a winner. I hope I leave more than that behind when I pass.

I will give the man credit for his service to our country. My post sounded mean-spirited, and perhaps it is, so I apologize for that.

Many of my friends who were USMC pilots in WWII and Korea new him quite well. They all had stories about him like the time he had a few to many at the Officers' Club at Floyd Bennett field where the rest rooms (heads) were in the basement. Long stairs down and a sharp right turn at the bottom. Ladies room was straight ahead. He took a tumble down the whole flight of stairs and ended up flat on the deck half in and half out of the ladies room. He was a big, fun loving guy.
