806 Ta section noise

we have a 806 diesel. It has developed a load rapping noise in the ta section of the tractor. It sounds like a bear in there must have gone out. It doesent change when you throttle up or down. Any ideas or help with thoughts on what it might be?

Dunno,

But a loud rapping noise just isn't good news any way ya cut it. I sure wouldn't run it until I found out what is going on.

Noises can transfer and fool ya.

'Spose you've got a rod knockin'? If the tractor has high hours, I'd sure start by pullin' the pan or loadin' it up to take to the Red Shop.

Hope everything turns out well,

Allan

Sorry but the only cure for this is to tear it down, some people like to know which cylinder is making the noise but its a waste of time since you will know when you tear it.
Be brave just dive in and start remove heads and belly pan then go from there after you see what's wrong.

Since it doesn't change with engine speed; it won't be rod or valve problem. TA probably needs worked on anyway. Good chance that's a gear tooth broke in the hydraulic pump. I've seen on here where guys tackle some but not all TA problems.

If you are sure it isn,t an engine noise you could have a tooth out of the IPTO drive gear. You can remove the trans brake cover and turn the gear to check it.But it should speed up & slow down with engine. Will need to be split between the trans & rear end to fix.Good luck.

I am pretty sure it is not a engine bearing. We will start checking gears in the ta housing and see what we come up with

Well we torn the MCV pump out and the main gear Is missing 2 teeth. The way it looks we have to tear the TA out to fix that gear. IS this right or there is a easier fix. any feed back is great... If we need to pull that section we figure on having the TA rebuilt so any feed back is greatly appreciated

What gear are you referring to as the main gear? If it is the gear that drives the MCV pump, you can remove that one without splitting the tractor. The one above it requires a clutch split. All other gears require the clutch housing be removed from the tractor.
