Guy at Tractor Supply says they have a spray that keeps deers away. Anyone tried this stuff???

only thing i ever found that keeps deer away is a 30-30 rifle or a big mean dog. deer don't like either of them.

Stuff they sell around here is made out of hot pepper juice. Washes off with first rain. Might be ok for a garden but the people I know who have tried it on soybeans only did it once.

I have been told a 22 is the best thing to keep them away, neighbors don't perk the ears up as high as they do with a high power rifle.

We used some deer repellant, (Deer-be-gone,?)
but not from Tractor Supply, on newly transplanted
apple trees. The Deer left the trees alone, but
real pricey, and had to be reapplied often. Ours
was in a spray can, and we had only 10, three
foot high trees. We later drove 3 steel posts
around each tree, and made a circle of 5 foot
high woven wire,in about 5 foot diameter circles
so Deer couldn"t reach in to eat. Trees are about
10 years old now, took fencing down several years
ago. Fence made it a pain to prune trees, but
saved them.

I heard that the scent of humans might keep them away.

Can you mulch the area around the trees with human hair from your local barber and it might help reduce the mowing around the trees.

Or how about beer after it has passed through you. Maybe the scent of human urine will keep them away.

Guess you could try peeing in the flower beds. I do that all the time. Didn't have a deer problem to start with, just like to pee in the flower beds.

greygoat, I use the same three post and the concrete reinforcing wire for my trees. You are right that it is a pain especially for mowing. Last year I removed the barrier on one tree for a party and waited until the next day to put it up again. Overnight the deer completely wrecked the tree and I had to replace it. They didn't just eat the leaves but broke all of the top branches off while feeding. The tops of this tree were about 8'.

I have heard that human hair will repel them. If you could get some from the local barber shop. That could be a pretty dirty job spreading it however..... the 30-30 idea is still a very effective one. any high velocity weapon will work, killed them with a 22 and with a 45 caliber glock..... use what you brung. the 22 works quite well usually because you shoot them and they remove themselves from your property and very very seldom return. Beats all h3ll out of having to drag the nasty disease carrying vermin off. I do not like them in my pastures...they can spread disease to cattle.

I talked to a guy just yesterday that tried the deer repellant last year.
He was very skeptical also, but claimed the stuff actually worked quite well.

Gene, you must be related to an Air Force friend of mine from Idaho.
Our NCOIC planted sme tomatoes and warned us peons not to bother them. They were about to start ripening when I noticed the foilage was drying up from some dread disease. My friend from Idaho said he had been peeing on them,as they were not going to be shared with everyone in the outfit. No one had any tomatoes.

My wife has a dog grooming shop, and we used dog hair for awhile. It seems they got used to it. I go out into the yard, they look at me. I let the dogs out, they get outa dodge!!

For the human hair. No need to spread it just put it in foot area of pantyhose or stocking and tie that portion in the tree.

Also ORIGINAL Irish Spring soap does work. Cut up the bar put it the nylons and tie it in the tree. You may end up with Leprechans. LOL

Many zoos sell the manure/scat from their big cats. Lions, tigers, cougars etc.
Doesn't take but a 5 gal bucket out by the trees. Works real well.

My wife bought some deer off this weekend and it smells horrible, till it dryes and it is Fox Urine.......real bad stench for an hour or so. I dont know how well it will hold up in the rain.

She sprayed it on her flowers.

Tried some last year seems to work. This year I tried making my own, only put it out about a week ago. so far OK. noticed the deer in my neighbors yard this morning and not in my peas.

Try blood meal - sold for fertilizer for roses.
Kept them from my wife"s garden beans. sprinkle a little over them every few days, especially after a rain.

I work at the local TSC on the weekends but I don't know if its any good. I've heard mixed if a its a small number it works but large groups not so well.

I use this formula to keep Deer away. Mix 2 eggs, 2 cloves garlic, 2 tbsp cayenne pepper, 2 tbsp hot sauce and 2 cups of water. let mixture set for 2 days and then spray plants. I mix 2 gallons at a time, strain it and then use sprayer to apply. It smells like vomit but it will keep the deer away even if it is just sprayed around the periminter of the garden. For larger area I use electric fence.
The above mixture is from Jerry Baker.
