Got about 5 acres down I've washed it twice now it's been so dry here now it's rained yesterday and this morning already and later today they are talking thunderstorms, cant complain need the rain guess I needed some bedding for the cows anyway!NW Wisconsin.

now i hate to display my ignorance, but what exactly is "washing hay"? i dont raise hay myself and havent heard the term, they raise it down the valley from me and i usually buy it or trade for it for some hauling [ big truck hauling] or such so i never got into the paticulars of raising it,

I have a good friend who mowed hay last week. About 80 acres, all at once. He called and asked if I could help out baling. I did but even the 2 of us couldn't get it all in and now it's been washed several times and will get washed again today. Gee I do love to make hay!

A farmer told me he did lose some hay to a snow storm.I cut small amounts.Takes longer to get the haying done but it doesnt get rained on.

Right at this moment the hay here is being washed in the super-soak cycle. Turned it yesterday so the underside can be washed. You gotta get it all, you know!Jim

yep we were just on the edge of it got an inch and 2/10's it really came down hard still kinda drizzling, that makes for over 3 inches in the last 10 days, hope you guy's get some up there.have a good one!

NW Wisconsin ? Anyways near Fredrick ?Barnette County Dairy Co Op makes some awesome cheese up there.Love those cheese curds.

I sure didn't need the .3" I got last night but I am not going to fuss one bit. Just south and west of me they got 1.5+, strong wind, and hail. Talked to my uncle just now and he said tobacco in mashed to the ground and he has a good bit of tree limbs to get off the fences he just got fixed from the ice storm. Talked to a buddy that was going down the road just 5 miles from the house and the only "on time" corn around here that looked half way good had about 100 acres lay'n flat on the ground. Got to go after parts that way so I will see for myself. This is not shape'n up to be a good year, at least it dried out enough the last 36 hours since the last rain that my corn did not have water standing on it. I normally get mad at myself for buy'n stuff at auction but I sure am glad I started that 10" ditcher out at $100 in Dec., guess every one else figured with a start'n bid like that it was junk, sure made my money back on it several times on seed alone.

That is what I thought. Mowed 6 rounds, the uncalled for rain came in a sprinkled heavy before I could get it crimped and dark set in. Next morning it was wet enough that the crimper would plug after about twenty feet. After work when I went to start the tractor the battry took a dump before I got to the field. With the cool days the stems was not drying and the bottom leaves were not even wilted. Was crimping it and just as I was coming across the field on the last swath another unexpcted shower came up with only sprinkles. Later that night it started to sprinkle more and lasted until morning. Wind came up in the afternoon and all the grass was dry yesterday afternoon but with the cool weather the alfalfa stems were still not dry. We were missed by the rain this morning but stayed below 70 until noon. High only to be in the mid 70's so it is hard to figure out how to get no rain hay here this year even with mowing a small amout at a time. I did get one patch early without rain.

Same here, cut about 10 acers on Saterday.Weather was to be mostly sunny with a 20-30% chance of rain till Wednesday.I planed on bailing Wed. Did not have more then a few hours sun on any day.Rained yesterday and is still rainning today Thursday.Forcast is for some rain each day for the next 7 days.I think this is my last year for hay. It's much easyer to ride the tractor planting beans then to try and do hay with no help.
