o.t. OK I know somebody knows this . When planting sunflowers in rows i.e. with a hard land corn planter what is the seeding rate for 30 in rows. Have broad cast them before but plan on hardlanding some after cutting the wheat this week end. How man lb of seed do I need per acre.. Thanks Guys.

Was just told a reat of 4 lbs per acre or 17,000
plants which comes out to about 10.5 in apart in 30 in rows. Is there anyone out there that can
verfiy this.. Thanks again

You need to know the SIZE of the seed to use the correct plates and the seed count per pound to figure out the lbs. per acre needed for a given "population".

The "size" of the seed should be stated on the tag attached to the bag.

For "confection" varieties with large heads 17,000 seeds per acre is about average, for "oil" varieties with smaller heads, up to 23,000 seeds per acre is about the norm.

guess it depends on what you want it for. We grow sunflowers for cut flowers at our farm stand. I plant 36" rows with a precision vaccuum seeder, about 2" seed spacing. course, they don't all come up... but they can be pretty close.
