bahia grass in hayfield

Has anyone had any experience with removing bahia grass from a coastal bermuda hayfield? What to spray with , when to spray, etc? I am in north Florida. Thanks Amo

I'm in SC. I have Bahia trying to take over Fescue. I think we will have to spray the Bahia with Roundup, probably more that once as seeds germinate, and then replant the Fescue and Coastal. I have seen Bahia choke out common bermuda, broomstraw, and fescue. The only thing that it can't handle if Johnson grass.

Metsulfuron (Escort and several generics) will control bahia in bermudagrass. Areas treated will probably have a reduced yield for a couple of months. Always check the label but I believe you can apply up to 2oz per acre to bermuda. .5 - 1 oz will usually control bahiagrass. We are located in Lake City and sell the product in various formulations. Give us a call if you would like to buy some (NaturChem 386.755.3403)

lly by DuPont is marketed just for that purpose & it kills as advertised. The problem I have had in using it is that the native Texas common bermuda re-covers the killed bahia spot instead of the costal. Hardiness or speed I guess?

Brand name "Cimarron". Methylsulfuronmethyl. .02% mix will kill bahia. Pricey stuff, but only takes a very small amount.

We have some in our coastal hayfield that I will be spraying in the next week or so.
