OT: Saw an ad

Saw ad on TV recently, I forget for what but it was some organzation bragging about saving a tree by reducing paper use. They showed giant old tree in a the middle of a green field. The tree was full of bird nests, happy racoons and such. "We won't have to use this tree to make our packages" or what ever. Reminds me of a graduate level class I was in for Environmental Management. The professor was a retired EPA regulation writer (and darn proud of it). She when on about recyling paper and reducing the use of new paper as low as possible. I tried to point out to her that it is not a zero sum game. I told her that my family had a pretty good size chunk of timberland (1000+ acres) and it was timber BECAUSE there is a market for the trees. If timber havesting went the way of tobacco or the fur trade,(politically incorrect) it would probably be cleared for pasture, crops or 3 acre ranchettes, none of which would benefit the tons of wildlife it supports as a working forest. She had no answer for me but she is probably writing a regulation or something. Sorry needed to vent about regulations!

Wood is a natural earth product. TV and radio airwaves are not but man made trash that carry political agenda trash! Regulations of all kinds are more man made trash! Stop poluting the planet and universe with more political trash and regulations!

Back in the 40's they used straw to make paper. If they really want to save trees, why don't they start making paper from straw again?
