rubber gearshift boots

First remove the knob.Pull the edges of the boot up like you were going turn it inside out and slide it over the lever. When in place turn the edges diwn. Easy!

If you use lube, make sure it is not petroleum based as it will deteroirate the rubber. Use vegetable oil instead

I put new boots on my JD 1020 without removing knobs or shifters. Remove the old boots first. Put the new boots in a pot with enough water to cover ( sounds like a cookin show) Bring to a rapid boil and quickly take to the tractor still in the boiling water. Use a minimal amount of Dawn or similar on the knob. Forcefully pull the boot over the knob and down the shifter and fit while its still hot. It really works and is a huge time saver.
