Just wondering what your thoughts are on a proposed Vietnamese soldiers memorial to be placed in Veteran's Memorial Park in Wichita, KS, complete with South Vietnam flag?

The newspaper accepts comments which may or may not be used.

As a Vietnam era vet I'm against it and feel it is a slap in the face to those that served there in the U.S. military. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that is how I feel even after all of this time. Seems like yesterday instead of 40 years ago.
Hutchinson News article Vietnamese soldiers memorial.

I was in Vietnam 69-70 with the 101st. In the heat of battle some of the Arvin troops turned and run. The Vietman Veterans have been kicked in the face once when they came home. I guess that was not enough. I guess after they build it the next thing will be a jane fonda mounment. My thoughts DH

I was in Security Police at Phan Rang AB all of 1971. During the later months, we were into the Vietnamization of the war. The theory was we were supposed to train the ARVN into our jobs. As soon as they got out on their post, they fell asleep. They weren't interested in much of anything. Some buddies that left after I did told me the VC took the base the very same day that the last of our guys left for Cam Rahn Bay. I don't feel the ARVN needed to be honored at all. They really didn't care who governed them, as long as someone was feeding them.

OH! just shut up and enjoy it. probably the only one in the world.

BUMMER what will those Liberals think of next.
OH! we need a memorial for Stalin in the WWII one in DC.

with the present administration-- heaven only knows what will be next--- id come down to protest if it comes to that and i surely will write to the paper.

True. I'm not aware of any US memorials to our allies in any past wars, although I wouldn't be surprised to find that there's a monument to Lafayette somewhere. But I would point out that Australia, S. Korea and the UK still have countries in which they can erect all the monuments they want. The South Vietnamese no longer have a country, at least not one that lets them build memorials to their war dead.

Now I've heard that the South Vietnamese troops served less than honorably. I don't know, I wasn't there. But when I visited the Vietnam War memorial, I didn't see asterisks next to any of the names to indicate those whose conduct was not honorable. It seems sufficient that they died in the service of their country. Is it too much to let the Vietnamese have a memorial to their countrymen who died in the same conflict?

I think Mark bring up the important part, there is no South Vietnam anymore so there will never be a monument there.

Not sure I would do it, but I sort of see where it's coming from.

Don't get to political boys, they're honoring they guys who fought the Communist, not the Communist them selves. I'm sure there where plenty of sub par troops, but I'm also sure there where some guys that went above and beyond.

The ARVN leadership and government was about twice as corrupt as ours is now. And that is damned bad!!!! Half of the ARVN troops were VC. The remaining half was lazy, poorly trained and basically worthless. That didn't leave too many good troops. There were some South Vietnamese rangers who were OK, but too few.

A memorial in Kansas?

Let the go*ks put up their own.

I was sure wishing things would get better after Sebelius took off and shacked up with Bambi. Thanks for ruining that delusion.

I was there in 68, when I left we were winning!
Some food for thought!!!!!!!!!

Of the 8,000 now in Kansas.
What % Came down the HCM Trail?
" Set on thier A@@ and let the US troops do thier fighting for them?
" Were VC?
" Said nothing about booby traps, as we walked thru thier vills?
" Were good troops?
" Pay taxes?
I make referrence to both adults and thier ancesstors.
The South Vietnamees people were in between a rock and a hard place. How many Montnyards (sp)were left over there? That US Troop tried to bring to the US. All that being said as long as they don't use US taxpayers money. I'm not sure on this one.

(quoted from post at 18:23:22 06/08/09) . Is it too much to let the Vietnamese have a memorial to their countrymen who died in the same conflict?

JESUS. Somebody needs to get you down on a hard floor someplace and do some altitude 'a changin.

This is a (non) war that is steeped in CONTROVERSY

This is a (non) war that the politicians caused to be LOST

This is a (non) war that perhaps could be argued the U.S. should never have been involved

but last.........THESE ARE NOT Vietnamese AMERICANS. These are troops from another country, another place, not ours

Not now

not EVER

not anyPLACE in my country

not under ANY damn conditions do we need memorials to foreign soldiers under this type of situation.

I've got a pile out in the corral that would make a fitting memorial. I'm sure there is someplace out on the west coast that would be a good place for one. All the towns around the meat packing plants filled up with vietnamese because those were the only ones that would work there. Now they have gotten lazy and won't work and the hispanics have taken over the meat packing plants. Like they say, you know what you call a vietnamese with more than 3 dogs? A rancher.

I guess after they build it the next thing will be a jane fonda mounment.

Great then I can pee on it!

(quoted from post at 16:52:12 06/08/09) Do we have a English , South Korean, Australian etc memorial anywhere?

No, but the CiC will soon endorse a monument to all the innocent civilians killed in the war on terror and the innocent folks locked up at gitmo in order to improve the American image in sheet land....

I'd say get together 500 U.S. Vietman war veterens ,that were in the ***INFANTRY *** and let them vote,if 498 or more vote FOR it,build it if not forget it.
A GOOD ARVN....right,I guess he drives a 1952 Corvett,and has a 40 year wife who is a virgin,AND,the mother of his 6 children+
I came home from there 40 years ago,but still remember the whole thing, and I did point, and recon, not paperwork.

Link below to the proposed text of the monument according to the Wichita Eagle newspaper.

It contains three paragraphs. It does read as a thank you to Americans for much of it. Still I certainly don't care to see any flag flying at the Veteran's Memorial Park other than U.S., MIA, and any other of the normal ones we typically see.

As a veteran I appreciate your replies.

The Hmungs around here are protesting that they
should get "Veterans Benefits". They're standing
on street corners, wearing some type of boy scout
uniform, waving the old Viet Nam flag, holding up
protest signs.
I ask you:
When was a mercenary ever promised more than a
Paycheck?
WHO promised them a lifetime ride on the Gravey
train?

I've read some of the posts below and have to wonder if the people writing them know the differance between North and South Vietnam.

So do you think our troops are less deserving since they are serving the external_link Administration?

Let me assure you that we know. While I didn't serve "in country" I was in the Navy for six years in the Viet debacle. I know full damn well the difference, but I don't want some memorial IN MY COUNTRY to the military of a country that we should have never gone into, or if we did, we should have gone in TO WIN.

This country has a hell of a long ways to go before it reconciles the treatment of vets generally, not just Vietnam. The lack of support for injured returning vets of the CURRENT ill fated "war" is yet another insult to those that have been.

Good point!

We might consider the ARVN for a memorial after we construct one for each and every one of our more reliable long-term allies. That's a lot of memorials....The ARVN would come after:

France - our very first ally in the Revolutionary War. (look up Lafayette)
Poland - a very important ally in the Revolutionary War (look up Koscuisko)
Canada, Australia, India, England.
Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea.
Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece.
Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Turkey.
New Zealand, Brazil...I could go on.

You do realize that the proposed memorial is for the US SOLDIERS AND the Vietnamese soldiers they fought along side with.

The above is not correct! The US soldiers are already honored at this memorial - this new one would be strictly for the foreign soldiers. We have never, ever, had a memorial like this for any foreign soldiers and there is no good reason to have one now. The fact they no longer have a country is not relevant. Had they performed their duty better they might have a country. They let us and their own countrymen down. This is only a way for libtards to further erode our love for our country - they will stop at nothing to tear it down and this is just one more notch.

Wichita has a yellow-bellied libtard mayor and disfunctional city government. I am nearly ashamed to say I worked for them for 21 years - but I do feel a little better since I take their retirement money the first of every month. We need a miracle to stop this outrage.
