First crop is in the bag.

Finished up our 1st crop today, and no major breakdowns either. Only problem was a couple shear bolts in our 920 wagon and the chopper. 3 each I think.

We didn't quite fill the bag, the hay on the home farm was kinda dissapointing so there wasn't as much there as there should have been. 13 loads from 24 acres at home, 11 loads from 15 acres up the road. This was all a mix of new seeding last year to 4-5 years old. The new seeding and 2nd year seeding was the absolute best, and really filled the wagons fast.

Some of the feilds are gonna get plowed under and put into corn, hopefully by the end of the week. Dad's gonna haul manure on them when the rain quits (got done right before it picked up some) and I already have the plow on the 1855 now after the chopper.

Thanks for the pictures Don Looks like the old girls will have something to eat. When you plow up the Alfalfa & plant corn how soon can you go back to Alfalfa? Next spring? We fall seed with no nurse crop. Have to have seeded bu middle August.

Don,
We used to get bear claws on our cable. So we would place either slab wood or wide boards about 4ft long on end to keep the cable away from the cable. In some cases we would also use the cardboard from the box the bag came in. How big is that bag we filled 7 bags each year. Ours were 150x8. I guess they are as big as 10-12 ft now and 150-200 long? What brand machine are you using? We have an old silo press from Germany. Bought it in 1982 new for around $16,000.

We keep it in corn for several years so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

This bag is a 9x200. We put the cardboard back by the beginning of the bag where the cable goes to top & bottom of the gate on the back, that's the ponly place we've had problems with the cable digging in. We've used 10' machines in the past, but for haylage we don't wanna go bigger than 9'.

The machine is an Ag Bag built by Knowles before they sold it to Miller. We rent from a guy who has several of them. We would like to buy one for ourselves, but we only fill one a year with either hay or corn, so it'd be hard to justify it.

I think we got close to 1 1/2-2 inches over the last 2 days. We got finished in time to enjow the rain. Today I went home to just put the coulters back on the plow and get it greased and ready to plow under some of the poorer feilds.

Before I could change into my boots the sky opened up and we had a nice down pour. Walked over to my brother's house and talked to him and his wife for a litlte while waiting for the rain to quit. Got the plow ready to go finally after the rain stopped for a little while.

Dad is gonna haul manure whenever he can and I'll probably go out and plow when I get out from work unless he hops on and goes at it. He ussually lets that kind of work for me though. Guess I have more fun bouncing around in the feild.
