4010 PTO hydraulic leak

I have a JD 4010 diesel with a forward PTO shaft. I have tranny/hydraulic fluid leaking out of the middle of the PTO shaft from a threaded hole in the shaft.

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a set threaded set type plug or a bolt that is suppose to be screwed into this hole?

I put a new PTO seal in but the fluid is still coming out directly through the PTO shaft.

I have a 3010 that has the same setup. In the center of the shaft there is a spring with 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch pin with a flat headed machine screw with a washer that screws into the front side. Spring first then pin then machine screw. Mine had backed out but I got lucky and the PTO cover caught it.

Thanks for the fast reply. I couldn't find my IT manual and the leak was perplexing me. Not many guys knew much about the front PTO. Must be an "add on".

Got your reply, called my local JD dealer/shop and they ordered the spring, dowel pin, washer and machine bolt.

Thanks again!

The front PTO is not an add on, its original and common. Just its not commonly used, so most don't even notice it.
