Hi I have a simple question. I have a vac case with a positive ground battery and system. Does that mean the positive wire from the coil goes to the distributer? Right now someone before me has it negative coil wire to the distributer. Which is correct?
Thanks very much.

Yes. The correct wiring for positive ground has the coil + terminal wired to the distributor and the - terminal to the ignition switch.

However the coil will still make a good spark and the engine will run fine with the coil wired backward. Unless you are a restoration purist I wouldn't get too hung up over it.

Positive ground the distributor connects to positive on coil. Negative ground distributor connects to negative on coil.

I've encountered several cases of hard starting caused by coil being connected backwards. Coil is designed to be connected so that the ignition spark "spits" from the center electrode of the plug to the grounded tab. Reversing the coil will cause the plug to "suck" the spark from grounded tab to center electrode and can diminish the efficiency by a significant amount.

During starting when system voltage is low due to the starting motor dragging battery voltage down. And the increased voltage losses due to IXR. The coil needs every bit of help it can get to make a strong spark.
I can't see how it's huge expenditure of time, effort and brain power. To ensure two scrawny little wires are connected to the proper terminals.
A tractor has to be "restored to Expo" quality to make certain the wiring is a mess?

In a 4 cylinder magneto, 2 plugs fire + grd & the other 2 fire - grd. Gasoline doesn't know the difference as long as the spark is hot.
