New Honda Engine Fuel Mixture Adjustments

I have a 16 horse 2 cylinder Honda engineGCV530-QEA. Is there any fuel mixture adjustment either in the idle circuit or the main circuit?

I rented a stump grinder a couple of years ago and it ran way to lean and it didn't seem to have any adjustments, had to leave the choke on a little the whole job!

Most of the newer low emission small engines have no end-user adjustment capabilities. I would think there must be some way for them to be adjusted at the factory or dealer when servicing, but they have probably hidden it in some way. Manufacturers used to put metal caps over the idle and main adjustment screws on low emission carbs in cars before fuel injection replaced them.

Post your question over at the technical forum at www.perr.com; they should be able to give you an answer.

NO fuel mixture adjustments on new small engines for a few years now. This is why you need a set of 61 through 80 drill bits and a pin vise to hold them. For some years I have used these drill bit and also the lower end of my 1 through 60 set to adjust the carbs main jet on the flat twin Brigg flat head engines. About two weeks ago a guy brought me a 15.5 HP Tec. engine with the PLASTIC FANTASTIC CARB ON IT. The engine was lean on both the high speed and idle mixture. Drilled out the plastic, YES plastic high speed jet and I used a number 75 drill to enlarge the brass idle jet. Engine ran like a dream, which is ODD for a Tec. engine when she left.
It seams as these newer engine are set-up so lean from the factory that when they get a little age/wear on them they need richening up. The only way to do it is with a drill.

Interesting Kent. I didn't realize that the new engines were completely non-adjustable (I am still running engines that are 20 or more years old). They really aren't made to last running smoothly for very long.

Had a Honda 6.5 on a go cart. There"s a little plastic piece on the carb with an air bleed hole. If it gets clogged the engine won"t idle.

NO, I have not seen any new four stroke engines that have either idle or high speed fuel mixture adjustments. Some of the newer 2 strokes on weed eaters have adjustments BUT you need a special tool to adjust. One type is a spline connection. the other is a shaft with a flat on it. Both are recessed so you can not grip with pliers. Only dealer are meant to have the tools. I have compensated.

Ill have to recheck the book on my Kohler, but Im pretty sure theres 2 adjustment screws on it. One could be slow idle speed though, I know theres something there.

Yes, there is a idle SPEED screw but NOT idle mixture. The Tecumseh engine I spoke of is most likely some of the last they built. It was a 15.5 HP OHV design.
