1996 MF 231 Hydraulic Oil Specifications

Does any one have recommended Hydraulic Oil specifications, type and characteristics for the 1996 MF 231? Is it still available? Or, is there a recommended replacement? Can someone lead mew to these parameters?

I have about 600 hours running time, too early for an oil change, but the oil level is a little low and I would like to add more to top it off. To do this I want to make sure I have the same characteristics to keep it homogeneous.

Thank you,
Marc

The current oil sold for Massey is Perma-Tran 821XL. There are other oils that can be used, but time and time again I have heard that other oils can make the tractors do some odd things they didn't before.

If it's still ruinning the same oil it has been since 96, I'd change it no matter what. Lots of contaminants can get in the oil in that much time.

I would not go by the 600 hours but by the years, as Donovan said below. Time to change it. I change my MF-690 every 2 years. Tom

Thank you. I would presume the Perma-Tran 821XL is compatible with the original oil recommended for thr 231. Does any one know what the original oil specified was for the 231?
