New Holland 56 hay rake gearbox

I know this has probably been discussed over and over here, but can"t seem to find the old discussions. I bought a NH 56 hay rake, the lower shaft seal is out of the gearbox (like most others) I know guys have talked about just using gun grease in it, but how much? Anyone know how much to pump into it?
Thanks

How about cornhead grease... it's between a heavy oil and gun grease in consistency.

As long as there's enough in the gearbox for the gears to sling it around, all should be well.

I pumped most of a tube in mine. Never used it but corn head grease, like Bob said, would probably work better.

I had the main spindle bearings go out in mine. I packed them with wheel bearing grease, put in new seals and filled the box with gun grease.
