I need to take my starter off it's a 498n I took the two bolts loose the starter will come out so far but the gears are caught on flywheel please help Art.

The Prestolite starter has a bendix that travels towards the starter, rather than away from it like more modern starters. You have to wiggle the starter to get the starter drive past the flywheel. It's also possible that the drive is engaged. If so, there's nothing you can do about it because the drive won't retract until the engine spins it to a certain speed. (Presumably you're pulling the starter because it's bad.)
