Sales Trick

Have a local station that is losing customers to a new tourist trap down the road.He is selling gas at 1.98 across the street it is 2.29. So now if you try and use a credit card or debit card. The pump will tell you to come inside to see the cashier. He is trying to get more sales by doing this.I have used my card there for over a year with no problems. Now he pulls this stunt. Which is now driving more of the local customers away.

Actually he is doing you a favor by circumventing the credit and debit cards.
They charge him anywhere from 2-5 percent or gas on the card. He is asking for cash to save you money. I always buy from "them" and save 20-30 cents on a gallon. Henry

all of the self serve gas stations want customers to pay first. i don't think that is right. after all, i don't pay first at the grocery store or lumberyard, so why in blazes should i pay first at the gas pump. before prices went so high, almost every gas pump had a big white sticker on it that says CASH CUSTOMER, PAY FIRST. i go to a small store that i have never paid first and they always turn on the pump and then i go in to pay AFTER i fillup. next thing ya know, the IRS will want us to pay first for next years tax. whadda rip off that people put up with this crap. if the gas station is worried about drive-offs, then get an attendent to pump the gas like in days gone by.

It is getting bad... MacDonalds around here makes you pay before you get your food.

As for the IRS, from what I know, you do pay first and then around April 15 they let you get a bit back or maybe even ask for more.

At College you always pay before you go to the first class.

When you buy on the Internet, you pay before they even consider shipping things to you.

Paying is not the problem. Down here we have pay at the pump for credit or debit cards. Now after over a year of going there. I have to go inside so the cashier can get the same information that the pump took. Before they will turn the pump on. I am disabled and it is very hard on me to walk up the hill to the store. Then stand in line to give them information they already have.Well no more. I can go across the street and get my gas with less hassle. I mean this is a small town and everyone knows everyone else.

Cas discount pumps used to be common, but now a company has to sign an agreement that they will not charge more for credit/debit card sales than for cash, even though they have ot pay a fee on each debit/credit transaction. Wanting you to come into the store is to get you to look around and possibly buy snacks, such as soda, chips, etc. they make more money off that than the gas.

As I understand it.. they get charged a different rate if they actually touch/swipe the card/get signature etc..

I'm not sure if thats what they are trying to do, but its what I was told by someone that took CC as payments..

If they are just trying to get people in the store to buy more stuff then to me it would be anoying..

Its just like the cash discounts.. if I go to a place that shows one price, but raises the price becuase I want to use my credit card, I just take my business elsware.
If they want to give a cash discount to people who slow up the filling process (you have to wait for them to walk inside to get the change becuase everything around here is pay first) which in turn makes them look busier (sp?) than they are so I go somewhere else, then so be it.
