Maybee we should all start playing along with there scams. Just say O.k here is my adress and phone number. Just make it your local FBI or attorney generals address and phone number. Call them and tell them its coming.

Couple sherrifs have had some scams directed to their drug buy accounts- they retain forged drafts for couple months and calls get recorded and in a few cases traced, 'Purchaser' advised of address to stop in to pick up change and merchandise. Indiana(?) sherrif and County attorney got a guy from New Jersey area, lots of the rest of scammers are Russian or the classic Nigerians and don't show up. Banks get informed of forged drafts and have stopped a couple attempts when the drafts are presented so has helped a few people keep their money. RN.

No, they were trying to scam him out of $2,065. Receive check for $2,200, cash it and keep your $135, send balance by Western Union, wait two weeks and check will bounce, you're out the $2,065 you sent to the scammer.

What amazes me is that with all the punlisity people still fall for it.

I would think most would be like Loren here and spot it right away.

HOW were you "HIT" by it if you didn't fall for it... delete it and move on, already!

I'm horrified as I read this posting, because my youngest son is trying to sell a John Deere riding mower on craig's list, for his boss (who don't want to mess with it.) He got an e-mail from someone with the same story. "Send me your name and address, and I will send you a cashiers check bla bla bla. What caught my attention, was the fact that he was going to send his "shipping/moving people to pick it up. My son has already sent him MY name and address, but nothing else. Are we in any financial danger? What should we do if we get a check in the mail?

Seems like every time I put something on Craigslist I get these scam offers. I tell them cash on pick up, nothing else is accepted.

You are in no danger. The scam is when you cash the check and wire the $$ to a third party, then several weeks later you find out the check is a fake. You can either destroy the check or frame it and hang it on the wall, DO NOT cash it!

RN,what should you do if you got a check from someone on this board? In a sense your son has gotten you involved in a business deal. I don't know what could come of the deal. If I got a check for something that I or my son had advertised for sale,I think that I better have some good legal reason for holding a check and not delivering the goods. A smart banker or a lawyer would be the one to ask this question of. Who knows scammers may have an alternate plan for situations such as yours, it may work,I doubt it but I have seen folks who think they are smarter than a dumb crook get taken by that dumb crook and nothing could be done about it.

Some still don't seem to realize that the scam has nothing to do with your item, your address, someone coming and getting the item and stealing it from you, etc. They don't care about your item, or where you live. No one will ever come. There is no "shipper". Its strictly a long-range bad check scam. Of course, they will expand it into an identity theft/ "drain your bank account" scam if you help them out by giving SS# or bank account #.
