I have some power steering steel connections that are leaking and I was wondering whether anyone has a good sealant for metal threads. I have tried teflon tape but I don't find it very good for high pressure lines.
Thanks

Thread sealant is usually for PIPE threads.
Power steering,(that i've seen), is usually
flare, or inverted flare, and shouldn't need
any thread sealant, tape, or pipe dope.
Advise your fitting type ?
On pipe threads I use Loctite PST,(Pipe sealant
Teflon) it's anerobic and seals under pressure
and lack of air. I've never had a problem on
clean, dry, oil free fittings. NAPA sells it as
NAPA brand Loctite PST. It's not cheap !

don't use teflon tape on hyd. sys. it gets in valves can cause trouble. loctite part no. 56747 thread sealant with teflon it is best for high pressure.

Just curious... what machine/tractor/vehicle are you working with that has pipe thread PS connections?

Sounds like an old Versatile or Steiger tractor!

You might check the power steering pressure its very possible that someone has turned it up above what it calls for. If you don't have the tools I sure any good shop will do it for free or at a low cost.

Just replaced a PS hose on my truck.Tubing was so rusty that it caused a leak.Intruction said put ps fluid on threads. One end had a white O ring.Caution against over tightening.10 lb torque. One fitting can move, but not leak.Teflon particles in a hydraulic system can shut it down.Dont use it....
