Started cutting Alfalfa today. Seeded last August with irrigation. one irrigation this spring and then all of the rain. It is about hip high and has a few buds. It sure give the swather-crimper a work out. Applying hay perservative at swather. Hope it helps with drying. Anybody had an experience?

Yes, the hay preserv does work. The experts will tell you that the best time to mow hay is between 10:00 Am and 3:00 Pm for the best uptake of nutrients.
I always found that raking alfalfa hay was best done when the dew was on the ground, either later evening or early morning. Yes it took a little longer to dry that way, but the leaf loss was so much smaller.
