removing grease from car headliner

I got grease on the headliner of my wife's one week old VW new beetle. She's not happy. I'm banned from driving it.
Any suggestions on how to remove the grease?

i have used parts cleaner that you by from the parts store by the gallon. a little on a rag and scrub it clean has worked for me. It looks wet when your done but dries clean.

Brake cleaner, the dealership tech's smudge remover. Spray some on the stain and soak a rag. A little rubbing and you will never know it was there when done. It will only take a few seconds to clean it.

Yep use brake clean. I've done it many times before.

Then take her out for dinner!! I've never done that but it sounds like it's in line.

Didja ever notice when THEY"RE not happy the world stops, but when WE"RE not happy we"re "...just being a baby about it..."?

As others have said use starting ether on a rag and gently rub it away and take care not to leave a ring from to much ether.

At least it wasn't a footprint on the headliner.

I'd be careful about using harsh solvents like brake cleaner and starter fluid - instead of a grease mark you could end up with a bleached out stain. Even if it looks ok when you're done three years from now your wife will be wondering why the headliner is looks messed up.

Use something intended to be used on fabric - I've found you can't go wrong with Meguiars products.

I had some nasty grime in the carpet of my F-150, and used "Blue Coral" foaming upholstery cleaner. I believe I got it at WalMart. Spray it on , scrub it in with a stiff brush and let it set until it dries, then vacuum it off. Repeat as needed. Left me with carpet on my 13 year old truck (with 240,000 miles) that looked brand new on the passenger side. Helped a lot on the drivers side, too, but the carpet was too worn out to make it look new. It also worked on Coke spills and salsa spills on the seats.
