Old deisel fuel

I have about 150 gals of 5-6 year old deisel fuel,What can i put in it to refreash it, Any input/info will be appreciated. Thanks James

I would just dilute it . If you needed 20 gallons for a tractor , use 15 fresh and 5 gallons of the old . Its worked for me ........

I don't think diesel fuel gets skunky. The old diesel Fordson I bought at auction a few years back had been parked in the trees for at least 4 years, without any new fuel added. It started right up, no smoke, sounded great. I ran it as low in the tank as I felt comfortable before adding fuel, but it made no difference to running. Just my opinion.

when it sits in the tractor for 10 or 15 years it smells terrible and old. it also is brown in color probably from moisture. i just drain mine out and put in new filters when its like that, not worth running it through the system .

We pulled an old Massey 55 out of the bush a few years ago that had been sitting for about 15 years. Just for the heck of it I put it in gear to see what would happen. We only pulled it a few feet and it started firing then started in a few more feet. Ran terrible at first but after about 10 minutes was running pretty good. I don"t think there was too much wrong with that fuel.

If it were mine I'd put some in a clear jar to see if there are any floaters or any water. Assuming none, I'd drop some algicide in it, filter it and use it. My jobber bought several hundred thousand gallons in 2005 that came out of old military underground tanks. Some of it had been in there 40-50 years and he says no complaints. He did filter it 3 different times but it burned fine for me.

I bought an old Kenworth 10-wheeler that had been parked for 5 or 6 years. The 120 gallon fuel tank was about 3/4 full when I got it.

After visually inspecting a sample of the fuel (it looked OK and smelled fine) I installed new fuel filters then pull-started the truck. It fired right up and ran great. So I simply used up the old fuel - had no problems whatsoever.

Burn it. I drained about 20-40 gallons of fuel oil out of the tank in my grandma's basement abotu 10 years after my grandparents replaced it with a natural gas unit. Dumped it in a tractor that was low and it ran fine. Fuel looked and smelled fine too.
