HELP I have a brake problem!!!

I have a 1967 MM G1000 Vista tractor that we just replaced all the brake components on (i.e. master cylinders, brake pads, etc.). The brakes are hydraulic and they work perfect when just using the individual pedals to apply the brakes but everytime we apply the parking brake lever, the left wheel brake locks on and won't release until I bleed the line connected to it. The parking brake lever is only connected to the left brake and by a short piece of cable linkage. I do not understand why the brake won't release. It is as if the brake fluid can not breath so it locks and won't release but why is this only happening when the parking brake is applied and not when using the foot pedals is beyond me. Please help, I am puzzled with this one.

If you have to bleed the fluid off to get the brake to release if it has a conventional master cylinder it sounds to me like the pushrod is not allowing the master cylinder piston to come back against the snap ring to allow the return port to open in the master cylinder. there should be a small amount of "free play" in the pedal before the pushrod starts to move the plunger in the master cylinder. Adjust the pushrod till there is a bit of play in the pushrod, so its not quite against the plunger in the cylinder. Also check the brake spring on the pedal to make sure the pedal is going to its stop. mEl

Been a lot of problems with cars the last couple of years with defective hoses. Seems they come apart on the inside and will not allow fluid to return to master cylinder, holding brakes on or not allowing brake to apply. Good luck- joe-

Thanks for your help guys. I will try the pushroad adjustment thing tonight and see if that works because I think this is exactly the problem.

Thanks again to both of you for your help it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again mEI. I fixed my brake problem last night based on what you had mentioned. It was exactly that, a pushrod into the master cylinder that was set incorrectly (i.e. not enough free travel). I really appreciate your help.
