looked at a ford 800 tday, could not see sn. # because of dirt and grease etc. it had 5 sp. trans. gas. 28" tires. starts up moves around seemly ok.. the pto will not engage. the lever will not move. man said he could not get the pto shaft out.. my question for anyone . the front emblem had 800 on it. i had a 801 yrs ago, i dont remember if it had the no. 800 on it. also i thought the 800 series were live pto. man said he used a override coupler. your comments thanks

The 800 series was built from 1954-1957 and had a hood emblem that said "800" on it. The 801 series was built from 1957-1962 and did not have any number on the hood emblem.
Only the 860 and 861 had live PTO.

Ya, we had an 800 series Ford. I think the mmodel # was 850. Had the 5 speed and non live pto but did have live hydraulics. Good little horse but slow in 5th gar.

You can find the serial # of the tractor, on the left side of the torque housing, above and just behind the starter, on the flat, horizontal spot. The serial # will tell you the options that originally came with the tractor. The pto drive shaft might be twisted, common problem on fords.

thanks for good responce and advice. the man wants $1000.. it has a lot of surface rust, but not beat up, needs new seat, it starts and runs good. lift works but did not try to lift a load.but could be some hidden problems. its a chance i am wordering about taking. have a good day. ps. man said he could not remove the pto shaft after removing the 4 bolts.
