Has anyone done this? We want to add fuel capacity in our '07 3500 pick up w/ duramax at work. Thanks.

I had a 1979 Chevy p/u with dual fuel tanks and you could switch from one tank to another in the cab. You could probably install one on your truck, but if your fuel tank has a pump in it you probably would need a pump in this tank. It would have to be plumbed into the existing fuel line and you would need a switch to cut off battery voltage to the existing tank and and a switch for the new tank to supply voltage to the fuel pump when its needed. There are aftermarket fuel tanks that double the capacity. Price was $800 to $1000.
I've got an 01 duramax 3500 4x4.I installed one of those toolbox fuel tanks that add 50 gallon.The top is a tool box the bottom fuel tank.I plumbed it into the fill neck on the truck tank,installed an electric fuel pump and while driving flip a switch and transfer fuel.I can go over 900 miles on a tank.

Ive been looking myself for the thing, cant find it. I know you drop the original tank and this one repalces it.

The Duramax does not have an in tank pump. The fuel is drawn by the high pressure pump on the engine. Last weekend I saw on the "Power Block" on Spike TV that there were aftermarket fuel tanks up to like 67 gal that fit in place of the original.
Transfer flow makes larger capacity replacment tanks, tool box tanks and in bed tanks. All of there products are DOT certified. the replacement tanks are called "midship" tanks. Find a truck accessory place in your area, and the price may be cheaper than factory direct, it was for me. Also if you want an auxilary tank in the bed, Northern tool has good prices on RDS aluminum tanks.
I had the midship tank in my 2001 duramax. I loved it, mine was a short bed so I went from 26 to 46 gallons. makes a heck of a difference. I have an auxilary tank in my 2008 duramax this give me 75 gallons of capacity. I can go to tractor pulls and home without needing to stop for fuel.
