I'm getting ready to paint a Massey Harris #27 plow which I intend to use. When I went to the local Auto parts for paint, I couldn't beleive the price. My question is, Tisco paint is more in my price range, has anyony use their paint. What's your opinion of it? How is the Quality and is the the color close to what it's suppose to be? I just want to paint the plow to use, not have a show plow.

You get what you pay for. Really good paint will kill you if you don't wear a "air supplied" hooded respirator. I bought a mower that the guy painted with TSC John Deere green, it is now a very dull blue. Check on the paint & body section of this site. You can get more info than you want there

Check with your local auto paint stores for some mismatched paint that may be close to the color you need. You need to heed Pat's warning when using these hardeners in paint and use a supplied air system. I used a quart of PPG's acrylyic enamel beige to paint the hood & fenders that was mismatched on my garden tractor. I used their hardener too. Cost for the paint was $10.00. I paid more than that for their hardener. The tractor still looks nice after 7 years. PPG
quit making the acrylic enamel paint, but Dupont still has it. Hal

In the auto body business, I get sticker shock every time I buy paint.

Single stage acrylic (which is seldom used on cars or pickups nowadays) that I bought for $20 per gallon 20 years ago is now over $100 per gallon. Even base/clear, by the time you buy basecoat, basecoat reducer, clearcoat, and clearcoat activator will total well over a hundred dollars for the equivalent of a gallon.

For painting plow, I'd try to find an acceptable color in Rustoleum.

I have been very pleased with the price reduced Valspar paint I purchased at Tractor Supply Company. Lets just say that's where I'll go the next time I need more metal enamel.

The Tisco paint is perfect for your needs. If the plow gets scuffed up a bit during using it, so what? Just repaint and you still don't have a lot of money invested.

I will be looking into an air supply hood I really haven't paint with a spray gun in about 40 years. Things sure have changed. Thanks for all the help.
