bird deterrent

I built an open face hoop building and cant stop the birds from making nests. What can I do other than putting a wall and door on it? I have seen electric ultrasonic devices. I wonder if they work. Have tried wind chimes and fans ans radio noise so far with no success. Guys let me know if you have something that works please.

Barn cats if they can climb supports.If metal supports,a couple poles next to wall sometimes
helps.A light weight net(as an intanglment trap) across upper portion of opening will discurage a number of them.Birds like to roost near nesting area so a strobe light on timer to come on before dusk and off after dark might help(I havn't tried this one).

get you a nice big barn cat, bed him down in the building, the birds wont hang around ,works in mine

Get a few cans of the 20 foot wasp and hornet spray, and spray the nests before they are completed...

I have used the sticky glue mouse pads in my barn. Put one in front of their usual nesting spots. Haven't had any nests this year... Gene

I have heard that you take some of the CD's for computer that AOL keeps mailing to everybody and hang them on a string so they twirl in the breeze will keep them away. Haven't tried it. Chris

I used regular mouse traps (snap-snap) to keep barn swallows away. Put them up where they are building the nest, once or twice and they never came back. They seem to have a very long memory.

Start up the 4020, fill the peak with diesel smoke once or twice in the spring. They will leave.

The smoke from an older diesel engine really works to keep the birds out. Try it!!!

An old timer I knew used to hang strips of cloth a few inches long around the edges of his lean too building to keep birds away from his truck. i experimented with something a little different, I broke open an old VHS tape and cut the tape into pieces 12 to 18 inches long and then stapled them to a board which I mounted at the top of the drive in door to Moms open shed she parked in. The tape is shiny and so light that even a breeze so slight you cannot feel it makes it move. Haven't had a bird in there for over 5 years.
