WATER COMING OUT BLOW BY PIPE

The 2030 JD we just purchased, we flushed the cooling system, then my husband drove it back to the shed (about 200 yds). When he got off, he noticed a big wad of goo (looked like grease and water) about the size of a half dollar that the engine had blow out the vent pipe. Also, there is water dripping out of the pipe, and it seems to taste kind of sweet. We have checked the oil (the tractor place had just serviced it) and it does not seem to be sticky to the hands. My husband thinks the engine is bad. What do you think?

Kinda hard to say. How does the engine oil look? If you mean the crankcase breather, and if the stuff is sort of tan milky stuff, it could be something as simple as condensation combining with a bit of engine oil from the engine not having been run up to operating temp often enough. If that's the case, the solution could be simply changing engine oil, and taking the tractor out and working it for a few hours, making sure the temp comes up to where it should.

If it's milky stuff coming out of the radiator overflow, that's a whole different ball game. That could indicate coolant and engine oil combining from a leaking gasket or some such. How did the old coolant look when you flushed the radiator?

I just talked to the dealer, and he said electrolysis, and needed to replace a sleeve(s) and o-rings. Said he would fix it. (we have only had the tractor for a week). But it would be a while before he could get to it.

loosen the plug on the pan.screw it out slowly and catch what comes out first.dont completely pull out the plug, jut let it drip.if antifreeze comes out,its probably a liner.send it to the dealer.

2030 should have the Deere 219 4-cylinder, which is one of many proned to electraulysis....You'll have a cylinder sleeve or two with pits that allow coolant into the oil pan. BTDT myself.

Your dealer is shooting straight.

If they agree to replace the liners and seals make sure you or they replace the main and rod bearings as the antifreeze will have ruined them.

Almost definately a bad bottom o-ring seal. Could be the o-ring itself or pitted liner at the o-ring groove. Working on a 2090 Case with the same problem... was #4 liner leaking. Causes water in the oil which boils out when hot and that is up in the valve train which then leaks out the vent pipe.

It sure is disappointing to buy a tractor that you can't even use. If we had not already signed and paid; We would just forget the deal, but we've got it now. I am sure that when they do get to it, which I probably will have to bug them about for weeks (and we will have to get in our hay without it); they will probably only patch it up. This is one deal that I wish we had passed on. Three different people at the dealership told us that it was a good tractor. I had asked the owner's son about a different tractor, and he told me about this one, and to not let it get away. We really needed another tractor, but could not really afford what we wanted. Always the same story, I guess.

I would ask him to do a leak-down test on the engine just to make sure how much wear, and where, you have!
