OT - the little ears of corn on the salad bars

What are the little corn ear looking things found on salad bars and such?

What do they look like growing, etc.
I don't figure someone shucks all the little things.

Was wonderin that myself I saw it a couple years back in jars I thought they were pickled or something. never tried them.
 
They are indeed little corn ears, peel part a growing corn plant that is about 12 inches tall and inside one of the whorls you will find the "ear".
 
You buy the seed and when it gets its ears and silk you have to pick before they get too big. The seed i planted i got from JUNGS. The plant was as tall as other corn just has the short little ears and you do have to watch close to pick at the rute time.
 
And you sure look foolish eating these in the conventional way most people eat corn on the cob.
