I use a free Michigan dialup ISP without SMTP server use (dialinfree.com). I use yahoo mail with this. Clinking on some webpage contact links brings up the Outlook Express frame that I can't use. could I use some open severs somewhere to let the Outlook Express frame work? where and how?
I think making the yahoo mail frame pop up instead of outlook express would also be ok.

The reason the link pops up Outlook is because it is an email link. There is a way to choose which email to use, BUT the email program has to either be installed on you machine OR be microsoft's windows live hotmail email. I don't think you can choose yahoo (I use windows hotmail), but if you want to try, open up Internet Explore. Find the menu bar and click "Tools" and find "Internet Options". It should open up a new window. At the top of the new window there are some tabs. Click on the tab that says "Programs". The second drop down menu should say "Email:". Click on the down arrow to the right and see if yahoo mail is an option. If it is select it and hit apply. If not, then you may have to deal with it. If you want the email address you can right click and select properties and it should show you the email after the "mailto:".

Ah,,,, yes... I think you are asking if there is a free email service that outlook can be configured for. Gmail has that option. I use outlook express with a free gmail email address.

However if you are asking if you can use your existing yahoo address then no. But like bjb said, you can change the explorer options for what program pops up for contact links. But even with that I think you are limited to Microsoft products (outlook, outlook express, hotmail).

I went with gmail because Gmail used with outlook or outlook express saves you the trouble of all those ads. And they do an OK job on spam. Actually the only spam that gets through is sites I buy something from or registrations (have accepted email from it at least once). I still have my AOL email account but use it for forum registration and other such stuff to keep my gmail account free (90% of my aol mail is trash now).

I have yahoo set to pop mail and use outlook with it. You can also use it with outlook express. You have to go into your yahoo account and set it up for pop3 mail. As already stated it works the same with Gmail.

The reason for this behavior is that you've clicked on link that has a "mailto:" URL. IE recognizes the "mailto:" and launches whatever you've chosen as your email program. By default on a Windows box that is Outlook Express.

There's an easy way to handle this: If you click on a URL and Outlook Express pops, just copy the address from "To:" field, go to your web-based email and paste that address into a new message. Or if you think a link is a mailto: URL, just look at it at the bottom of your browser window. If you see "mailto:", just right-click on the link and select Copy Link Location (or whatever the IE equivalent is; I'm using Firefox right now).

In Internet Explorer click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Programs". In "Email" see if Yahoo Mail is listed. If it choose it and it might solve the problem. I put in a link with instructions on how to set Yahoo Mail in Outlook Express.
