O.T. RATS,RATS and more RATS

Hi All, I've got a hot tub and can't get rid of the rats!. I've used the 5 gallon bucket and peanut butter thing to drown them, I've used rat poison. Yesterday I dis-mantled the whole apron around the tub, cleaned out the Rat S#^t ,plugged up a chewed hole with steel wool. and this morning alass more rat doodoo. there is nothing around the area for them to feed on. these thing are driving me crazy. Any advise from the experts out there. PLEASE my e-mail is open Jim in N M

Catch one: Throw in a pail of paint and let him go. The other rats will leave and so will he. It works every time.

take two 18" long x 1.5" PVC pipes and insert into a Tee fitting. Insert a 3" long x 1.5" PVC pipe into vertical hole. Fill with peanut butter with rat poison and push on 1.5" cap. Put right up next to a building, hot tub, etc.

Rats get in, mice get in, cats and dogs can"t reach the poison.

Good luck,

Bill

Didn't think there was any here until I was feeding the rabbits a week or so ago. Saw one that made me fear for my life.... 3 pounds of poison later, I think I've won the war....

So count your lucky stars. You could live down in the Silver City/Gila neighborhood and have coatimundis (I think they call them desert monkeys down there) joining you in the tub to really liven things up.

guess sitting out on the porch and shooting at them is a bad ideal.. now my hot tub has holes in the part that shouldnt..

One of our neighbors swears by catching one and then burning the corpse right next to where the other rats live. Says it works every time. I haven't tried it myself.

We pour gas on an old rag or shirt as it's lyes in a ground hog hole and the fumes float down into the hole displacing the oxygen and they're gone. By soaking an old piece of clothng with gas keeps it from evaporating too fast or soaking into the soil. Don't light it!!!!!! No need to plug the hole either. I couldn't believe until I tried it. It should work for rats also I would think.

If you have rats you have something for them to eat otherwise they wouldn be there.

They say if one eats some poison then goes back to the den and dies the others won't eat the poison. Just something I've heard thru the years.

I've seen propane wands that you stick in the varmint's hole. It fills the hole with gas and has an igniter to light the gas. I hear 90% of the varmints die in the hole, the other 10% come out on fire.

Speaking of cats- local newspaper story about rampant feral cats in a small town hereabouts. The elaborate but pathetic proposed solution to the problem involved catching cats in humane traps, neutering them, problem will gradually be solved by non-reproduction, etc. As a more immediate ("don't ask, don't tell) solution, my wife observed that all towns populated by retirees have a number of old men who customarily sit in a chair on their porch and "spit and whittle"; City fathers should take an informal census of appropriate persons for the project, then quietly (in the dark of night) put a pellet gun and supply of pellets on the porch chair of these old guys. At appropriate intervals, still under the dark of night, resupply with pellets. Without fanfare or disclosure, these old guys would instictively know what to do with their newfound gift, and the problem would soon be resolved.

Lots of ideas on how to kill them but no way to ever kill everyone in my experience. I've experienced rat problems many times in my barn and killed lots of them. For the long term it comes down to food - where are they getting it from. If you eliminate the food you will get rid of the rats. In my barn its ear corn that draws them. One year I had no ear corn and within a month they were all gone.

if you know where their holes are at, put some diesel fuel around and in the opening. it burns their feet, they'll leave.

I've had real good luck with poison but they don't like it stale. You have to do it like you water your dog. Throw out old and replace with fresh twice a day.

Everybody around western,pa tells me black snakes eat rats, but I will be dammed if it stops them around my place.I have black snake and rats too. My brother inlaw got real upset when I threw a live black snake in his truck and he opened the door.I figured he loved them so much he could have them. They sure as hell aren't the way to get rid of rats..Plenty of poison I guess.....

Jim...I've got a friend who came up with these little pellets that when mixed with Coke or Pepsi , kills coons and other varmints..I'll find out what the stuff is called tomorrow....I never heard of the stuff before...R.S.

Get a rat terrier. I once saw a Jack Russell terrier kill about 50 rats one night when we let him in the barn and started pulling stuff away from walls etc. When they were panicking, running in all directions under the flashlights, he grabbed them, shook them once to break their neck, and grabbed another one, and it went on like that for a couple of hours. He had fun, and so did we, just letting him at those rats.

Golden link_disallowed fly bait . Works better if mixed in with baby pig pellets. Grind the stuff up first. They don't get very far after they have dined on it.lol.Pick up and bury the dead ones to keep pets from eating them and dying too.

Mix plaster of paris with angel food cake mix...only thing is put it where its dry..my Grandpa used it for 50 yesrs and always worked..Charles

When I was a kid, I used to make spending money catching black snakes and selling them to farmers. They must work well because I could sell more than I could catch.
