You can replace the FRONT one with a modern, one-piece seal. I have been told the units made for the flatty V-8's will work, or some guys just use an "off-the-shelf" seal from NAPA.

I don't know of ANY rubber replacement for the REAR rope seal.

The front seal can be replaced with a regular lip seal, alot of the V8 guys do that when the turn more RPM cause they start throwing a little oil out of the front. As for the rear I believe your stuck with the rope seal. As long as the engine isn't just wore out and has a huge amount of blowby/crankcase pressure the ropes are fine. I have built alot of these engines and never used nothing but the old rope style seals, and knock on wood none have leaked yet!
