pecan trees

Intended to fertilize pecan trees early in the year, but now they are leafing out and just got the fertilizer.Directions say to use it before leafing out ,or after leaves fall off. Will it be a problem if I put it on now, will it harm the pecan crop.Any pecan gurus out there. Our crop failed last year without fertilizer.Help

I have a small orchard in middle GA and I fertilized mine last week. The leaves are already on the trees. It will not harm the trees or the nuts. In fact, I have been advised to split the fertilizer applications, once in the early spring, at bud break and then again in late June because the tree needs food when filling out the nuts. By the way, check with your county extension folks, Texas has a lot of info on pecan production. Good luck!
