You said you served in the 90th. This is a long shot but did you know a Stanley Nikel from Derby Ct.? He also served in the 90th "Tough Hombres" and he got gut shot in France. He survived and had I daughter...I married her. He was Post
Commander of the Derby VFW.

No, i never met the man. But, seeing that there were so many men in each Division, Battalion, Regiment, Company, platoon, and squad, it was even hard to meet anybody a person had taken basic training with.
Although, a group of men who had trained with me, all ended up in the same Company in the 90th. Division, in action, in France, near St. Lo! Six of us ended in the 357th. Regiment, B company, at that time. But, as luck would have it, most of my group either got killed, or captured, or wounded.
I have kept in touch with the men i was in action with, but, i think i might be the last one still living!
Now, for your information, there is a 90th. Division Group, which you can join, or write to, and you can get lots of information about the 90th. Division Here's what to do: And it doesn't cost anything, unless you'd like to send a donation! Address all correspondence to:

You can give my real name: J.M.Hammitt in your correspondence, if you wish. The magazine has a lot of stories of the 90th. Division in action and addresses where you can get info, or buy CD's.
It would be a great way to keep your Father-in-laws memory alive.
And, thanks for asking!
p.s. I lost my left foot from a land mine explosion, in action, in France, in October 1944. I have written up some of my experiences of that!

Yours: Rusty J.

I figured it was a long shot. Thanks for answering....wife, the daughter, will contact the division. Thanks again.

My Dad was in the 90th. He still gets letters from the division. He hasn"t been to a reunion for a few years. He is 89.

Hey, us old timers and their descendants must keep the memories alive, as long as possible!
I'm glad i was able to help you folks!
I am not holding any regrets about my Army service! And, me losing my foot has done wonders for two friends, who were laboring along, thinking their life was over, or at least life as they knew it, because accidents had taken away their lively hoods. And a foot or leg!
One was in a car wreck, and after his Drs. had given up on him, i payed him a visit! When he saw how well i got along, and worked every day, he went for amputation, and is now doing carpentry work!
The other friend had his foot removed from a high ladder fall! Being a farmer, he was really down, thinking he was done farming. But, after i showed him how well i got along, his thinking changed! And now, he's out there doing most everything he did before! Except climbing tall ladders! Hey, life is what ya make it!
Cheers: Rusty J.
