O.T. Diesel fuel economy

I have a stock '02 Dodge cummins ram 2500 4X4 and a stock '05 jeep liberty with the common rail, 2.8 Liter turbo diesel. Since the reformulation of the diesel to Ultra low sulfer in '07 I have noticed a 10 to 12% drop in fuel ecconomy. But no noticeable loss of power. Some people say that I'm lucky only loosing that much. Others say I have lost (what little I had left of) my mind. Anyone else notice a change in fuel ecconomy with the reformulated fuel???

I agree, less power with the new stuff, leaks out of old type pumps, and less miles per gallon.Less lubricity too.Just my opinion,I could be crazy as well.

I had been getting 10.5 mpg with my '02 Duramax towing my 5th wheel camper to Florida every winter. This year I got 9 mpg. Talked to other diesel drivers while there, one said to use Power Service Diesel Kleen and Cetane Boost. I started using it and got 11.5 mpg on the trip back home.

Welp from one old geezer to another..put a quart of oil in your diesel fuel each tank ful..or even two quarts....lubes the pump, lubes the pistons and the potential energy of the fuel is increased.

Only thing I noticed was a slight drop in in milage, maybe .5 to .75 mpg in my Powerjoke, on plain diesel, but I ran B20 in it. I averaged 17 - 19 in the summer on it, where as with regular diesel I averaged 14 - 16. This is both hand calculated and confirmed by the OHD. Now, my 08 Duramax does right opposite, so I just run regaular diesel in it, and have no older diesel to comapre, so Ill compare it to my buddies 05. I get average 17 last summer, and winter blend is now out of the equation here, but he gets 21 or better average. Im guesing because his doesnt have the smog junk mine does. His accually went up with the ULSD by 1 -1 1/2 mpg.

My 06 duramax used too get 21mpg hwy. until they switched to the ultra low sulfer diesel but now my hwy mpg's are 16mpg at best and it sucks. but yet when I could get high sulfer off road diesel i could get 23 hwy with out any problem I guess my truck likes sulfer

At the same time it changed I changed injectors and pump so its really hard to tell. What I have noticed is that without a load I get about what I always got 17+/- on road, good driving, with rpms at 2000. Loaded and pulling hard, about 12.

Before I got 17-18 on road empty and 15 loaded heavy. Thats on an 01 Dodge.

I mix 1 gal filtered USED oil with 3 gal diesel.Run it in all my tractors and trucks for several years and never had a problem.I do change my fuel filters twice a year.

If you're using other than ULSD diesel in that 08 Duramax, you're going to clog the particulate trap in the exhaust. Same if you add oil to the fuel.
