Getting ready to set out some strawberrys. I took an old 18.4x34 tractor tire and cut sidewall out of it and going to fill it with dirt and then plant strawberrys in it. Which is better, June bearing or Everbearing? I like the idea of having the berrys longer, but if they don't taste as good I don't want them. So, Which is better???? Chris

That is one of those 6 to one half dozen to the other type things. I have known people that swear by each and to me I can not tell the difference as long as they have enough water and enough manure

Go for the everbearing- especially if they're "grandpa berries" (for the grandkids to pick and eat when they come over). No difference in taste, and its nice to have them over the whole summer. I use Quinalts, but I'll bet they're specific to the northwest, so your results may vary.

Don't have to plant strawberries have all the wild berries you'd ever want to eat. The hard part is getting down on all fours and rooting through the ground cover. I have 2 labs that love the wild berries take them for walks and all they do is eat. Rasberries are nexteat them right off the bush. Want to see a sight, watch them open there mouth picka whole bunch of blackberries thorns and all. Its tuff come winter all they eat is snow for 5 months.

I live in Western West Virginia and my Strawberrys already have small berrys on them will probly lose them to frost later on. Wife put lots of Chicken s#t on them last year and they look real good this year.

Chris,
I have my berrys ..up about 3 feet ... lot easler to pick...

When I was younger my anut had a big bed... and had 3 or 4 GEESE ... ask why ... they kept the WEEDS out..... Just take them off the berries when they START to turn... She had the CLEANEST beds ....
Geese will get the grass and weeds .. when they they are just thur the ground.. nice and tender for the geese...

Anyway if you want to see my set up .. e-mail me ... it's open
