MBE906 Mercedes....Experience?

Been looking at FL70 freightliners and ran across one that is really clean and has an MBE906 in it. It has 400k on it which is a lot so it's possible it will need a rebuild during the time I own it.

Question is, I know what the rebuild cost and part availability is for the Cummins B's & C's and the Cats, but heck if I can find a lick of information on the MBE906. Last thing I want to do is buy something that I can't get parts for/cost an arm and a leg to fix.

Thanks!

Try checking aths as well; there"s been a lot of Freightliner comments since the gradual shut-down.
There"re people there who aren"t Freightliner fans, who may be able to give you some background.
Now, I think--REPEAT,THINK--there was some negative comment about a Mercedes in Freightliner, which surprised me at the time because of Mercedes" generally very good reputation, BUT IT"S ONLY A HAZY RECOLLECTION: I can"t find any note, and if it existed it may well"ve been on a different engine.
One of the diesel engine sites may also be of help. Good luck.

Don't remember, right off, the model number of my Detroit diesel, that had the Mercedes logo on the head. It was the 4 cylinder, intercooled, turbocharged. I got out of that FedEx route with the odometer reading right at 50,000 miles, so longevity was not measured. It sure was a GREAT engine in that application though! Greg

Parts availability and cost are no different than any other brand. Reliability.....that is another issue(At least for the bigger engines, the MBE906 I don't know). We have a 12.8L in our W-Star, and have been rather disappointed, as are most others who have them. Resale is terrible too, at least on Class 8 trucks.

Well the freightliner trucks are one of the cheaper lines of trucks out there. Depending on the dealer support in your area I would go with an international or a pete they will be there when the rest are put to rest. Make sure they have the oil type wheel bearings not sealed, for front wheels.
